Sustainability - Economic - SaveOurZoos Victoria is situated on the southern side of Eastern Australia. It has a reputation for capricious weather patterns (think, 4 seasons in one day and you're on the right track...)
In summer this can be very pleasant. Winter, however is a completely different kettle of fish, with at times below 0 temperatures and freezing rains, with hail and even snow being a not uncommon feature of midwinter weather.

This might be one of the reasons that theme parks have never really thrived in Victoria. Even a state icon such as St Kilda's Luna Park tucks itself in and turns off it's lights for the winter.

But whimsy aside, why don't we look at the history of Theme Parks in Victoria? It will give some indication of how well prepared Village Roadshow would need to be to counter the reasons for all other similar ventures failing.
in order to be a commercially viable business, able to satisfy its bosses (the Shareholder) without reliance on further subsidies from Sate Government.
And if it fails during off peak months, what compensates for the reduced profit margin? Reducing Shareholder 'wages' , maybe - but reducing overheads is more likely and the most obvious means of reducing 'money out' are in reducing labour force, turning capital into liquid assets or reducing maintenance costs for these assets.
While this won't mean that the Lionesses will be left eating 'Wiska's' or Homebrand tinned food, it will possibly mean
- no dedicated vet service, use of locums - poor continuity of care. In humans we know that this leads to compromised outcomes, and we have (usually) both the voice to protest and the power to choose our care providers. Animals in zoos ahve no such consumer power.
- Reduction in enrichment opportunities - FOTZ are constitutionally unable to support a For-Profit organisation, meaning that Village will have to find it's own volunteers or have some part of their staff create the enrichment activities that keep animals socially, psychologically and physically healthy.
