Someone told me that as a mid -to - high ranking government empoyee he was told he can't speak out publicly against this. He's been told that if he signs a petition it becomes invalid.

Hands up who saw statements expressing an opinion about VR's proposed takeover of animal governance (not so quick, Jones at the back there, I haven't finished yet...) at Werribee Zoo on the web sites of Zoos Vic and Werribee Zoo last week?
Now, Hands up (yes, very funny, Smith, but we do NOT want to see your eye booger, thank you) who saw those same websites COMPLETELY void of any reference to Village Roadshow yesterday morning?
Hmm. So, when Kennett introduced the FOI exempt Commercial in Confidence Act for PPP's (Public - Private Partnerships) he really laid the door open for Dirty Deeds to be Done Dead Quiet.
Unless, of course, you might consider the joys of Blowing your own Whistle...

So, I hear that Village are in such dire financial straits that some brokerage companies won't even bother investigating them on behalf of customers cos they're too big a risk. A-PAR-ently their operating debt (quoted in whispers, mind you) of $160 billion makes them a bit of a dodgy prospect. I wonder whether their shareholders support them extending themselves with the Werribee Adventure? Of course this is just a rumour...

hi all, I've been trying to sign into this damn site under another name ( htose who know me know that 'Campaign Manager' ain't the name I was born with) but I'm finding it ridiculouskly - well - imPOSSible. Even after inviting myself. Those of you who do know me and my other address please write to me telling me if you've had the same problem with this site, cos I'll relocate this website - no point having it here if people can't join in. Other admisnistrators, how was it for you joining?. Let me know as soon as possible cos time's marching on. thanks, CM

Thank you for looking up this website.
We are campaigning to stop Village Roadshow - Warner from their proposed takeover of Werribee Open Range Zoo. They want to use the zoo grounds, the animals and the surrounding crown land (that's land 'owned' by the Victorian People) to build an amusement theme park.
Don't get us wrong. We understand how good this looks at first glance.
But you've looked this site up, which tells us that you've already realised that there may actually be more to this than meets the eye.
So, that's the point of this discussion forum - it's a place to take a good look at what this proposal actually would mean. You can have your say about the issues and make up your own mind about whether you agree with blocking this proposal. And what you can do about it.
Best Regards,
Campaign Manager on behalf of SOZ

Wow, Kazbug, you're a POWERHOUSE! Brilliant idea looking up the extinct species website. The issue of safety for conservation and breeding programmes under the proposed regime is a huge area of concern. Worthy of links and conversation in its own thread. Hey, will you start a discussion thread about the Toxic Dump? I don't know anything about how that was won and it's been mentioned a lot by other people.
Keep in touch and thanks again.

Figures for employment generated by the proposal fluctuate, however, Village are estimating that construction will bring 6500 jobs to the local workforce, 500 of which estimated to remain after this.
This looks great on paper - a boom in the local construction industry, lots of after school and holiday jobs.
If this is being used as leverage , though, it has to stand some scrutiny. Questions like - What proportion is going to be seasonal, casual, part-time work?
What's the real benefit into people seeking secure employment?
How satisfactory is Village's track record for how their workforce is managed and maintained?
How likely is it that they will preserve the existing Zoo keeping staff?
